Class Descriptions

Jazz

Jazz combines many styles and techniques from ethnic and contemporary dance to ballet. Rhythm, upon which all dance forms depend, is particularly integral to jazz dance. The first half of class consists of exercises to stretch and tone muscles and develop support for proper stress-free alignment of the skeletal structure. Using jazz, soul, R&B, ethnic and pop music, jazz classes are a great work-out and a fun way to release tension while attaining a body awareness that can be applied to everyday activities.

Ballet

Being that ballet is a core subject in all dance training, students will be educated and challenged to continually grow and develop their technique. Ballet training will also work on providing grace, strength, poise, balance and flexibility which will help improve students’ training in other subjects and activities. At an advanced level, ballet students may have the opportunity to go on pointe and have more opportunities to study the unique and beautiful style of ballet performance.

Lyrical & Contemporary

Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz, with expressive motions that tell a story.  Contemporary is similar to lyrical and incorporates elements of modern dance to represent ideas, emotions, and self-expression. Students will learn lyrical & contemporary technique along with how to express emotion through movement.

Pointe

An advanced form of Ballet technique done on special Pointe shoes that allows dancers to go up on their toes. Pointe students train for pointe work inside their regular ballet classes and is by teacher recommendation only.
